Cabbaging Cove

Dance, San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico, 1942
In addition to his work at the Manzanar Internment camp (which was his own project), Ansel Adams accepted a contract with the US government to photograph the native reservations and their residents. This was to make up part of a photo mural for the Department of the Interior Building in Washington, DC, meant to exemplify the preserved lands and National Parks system.
However, WWII halted the project, and it was never resumed.
